About this effect

This effect uses depth estimation to split a still image into multiple layers — typically a foreground subject, a midground, and a background — then moves each layer at a slightly different rate as the virtual camera drifts. The result is a pseudo-3D sense of parallax from a single 2D source, without any actual camera or depth data captured at shoot time. Edge areas that would otherwise reveal gaps between layers are filled using content-aware extension.
