Portrait Effects

Photos of people, from headshots to editorial portraits, where subject presence is the focal point.

A portrait puts a person's presence at the center of the frame, which means motion has to be earned rather than decorative — anything that competes with a face reads as noise instead of atmosphere. AniFX's planned portrait effects lean toward subtle environmental motion — drifting light, soft particles, a slow atmospheric shift — that frames the subject rather than overtaking it.

The animation window for a portrait is also usually short and looped: a few seconds of believable motion is more useful than a long sequence, since portraits are most often viewed as a single held frame in a feed or a profile. AniFX is designing portrait effects around that constraint — an effect should hold up as a still first and only reveal its motion on a second look.
